Some Tid Bits On Carving!
Many pieces that are created have a back story, often the buyer doesn't know all that happens behind the scene.
When ever I am doing a project I try to choose a piece of wood that will have a unique grain formationis. 98% of all pieces are sanded from 60 grit sandpaper to 600grit and on the occasion with 1500 grit, that is 10 different grits of tedious sanding that your carver does to make it as elegant as you see it.
Currently most of the pieces are made up of the following wood:
Red Cedar - This wood is ok to work with, when carving you have to be careful because it is still a soft wood and can easily dent or mark.
Poplar - Is generally used on the beautiful paddles you see, its hard enough for the project and yet beautiful to the eye.
Bass Wood- This is the most prefered to carvers as it is the easiest to carve and the cheapest in cost production.
